This journey has a certain mystique among travelers in this area for the appalling quality of the road (kept that way it is said by bribes from
an airline servicing the town of Siem Reap). In fact it was better than some journeys we took in Africa, though our tolerance for crashing around in a beat up bus inhaling
dust is less than it once was. Negatives included a long wait in Siem Reap, the fact that fellow travellers had arrived on the same bus and broke down twice, and the dust.
On the positive side we were breakdown free, travel was easy on the Thailand side after a long but hassle free wait at the border and of course we had none of the problems
people encounter in the rainy season with flooding and getting stuck in the mud. It helps too that we had low expectations, others actually believed the tour companies they
bought tickets off when they advertised air-conditioning and modern bus transport! The camera largely stayed safely out of the dust.
