UK End to End Bike Trip 2002

After doing the US coast to coast ride in 2001 Mark and I needed a challenge we could bring our wives on. The classic UK "end-to-end" ride fit the bill and we were all able to make time in July/ August 2002. Once we had booked our plane tickets it fell to me, as the token Brit, to plan the route and logistics while Mark took care of our maintenance requirements. Though later I'd enjoy discovering new parts of the UK planning was somewhat complicated by the fact I was totally unfamiliar with most of the areas we'd ride through in England, but with the help of an AA road atlas and a lot of internet research I managed to organize a fairly direct route that would keep us below 60 miles a day over the 17 days available.

The group was completed by the addition of a friend's 2 children (aged 13 and 17); we set off on July 17th and kept very much to time arriving in John O' Groats on August 2nd after 17 days riding. Use the links on the left to see our route map, and read about the ride. There are a few pictures of our travel after the ride here.
