The Flying Fox is a wonderfully eclectic place to stay up the Whanganui River on the west bank near Atene. It is linked to the River Road by a cable car over the river, the eponymous
"flying fox". The buildings have been created over the years by the owners and it combines rustic charm with most of the modern amenities you'd expect. Plus a big dose of peace and quiet. We spent our
first night of travels there (conveniently Valentines Day) and returned with our US friends Jeff and Amy the following week.

Tonight we are in the "Brewhouse", originally built for that purpose

The river always carries a lot of logs down from the heavily wooded stretches upriver

Haven't used one of these in a while, but they stock some good LPs to play
