After a good night's sleep we enjoyed an easy day, with time to change money, have a look at the town and visit Jinja's tourist attraction: the source of the Nile. Jinja is a quiet town, though it's the second largest in Uganda. It obviously became very rundown during Uganda's troubled period but is rebounding. The main roads are fairly well paved and most buildings have businesses in them again. Tourists are not obvious and the town center has the feel of people going about their daily lives without too much concern for the outside world. It's market was well stocked when we visited, but not a frenetic as many in Africa.
The source of the Nile is a mile or two from the town and marks the spot where the waters leave Lake Victoria for their 4000 mile journey to Cairo. Like the rest of the town the atmosphere is peaceful.
The evening was occupied by discussing our plans, hearing the first of the talks each student had prepared on some aspect of tropical medicine, and finished with suturing practice.
