Today's itinerary was to begin with an orientation at the Jinja Government Hospital, to introduce us to the local Health System. After meeting with the hospital administrator we toured several wards and clinics. The hospital was busy, though not overcrowded, and obviously underfunded. It was however well enough planned so patients had access to the outdoors. During the rainy season there would be more patients seeking treatment, and a lot of people are discouraged from attending or abscond during treatment due to the fees the hospital must charge.
For lunch we enjoyed a bit of luxury at "The Source", a new and very pleasant restaurant in the middle of town, then we split up with a few of the group going to carry out medical treatment for a group of orphans while the rest had more time to shop and look at the town. By the evening most of us had stocked up with curios to take home (on the basis we may not have too much more free time) and enjoyed a ride on a boda-boda bicycle taxi.
Again we completed the night with a talk on another medical topic.
