Day 12:Kimilili

The day began with our regular early morning surgery to treat local people. This gave different groups the opportunity to carry out extra surgery, at the cost of missing breakfast. We are reunited for a long journey to a primary school at Kimilili where the medical teams set up outside watched by a crowd under the sun, while pharmacy and the dentist work inside a classroom. Things run fairly smoothly until late in the afternoon when a thunderstorm forces an uncomfortable number of us to squeeze into the one classroom, including a half finished surgical case.

By the time we finished it was again dark and the classroom was besieged by all those who had not yet had treatment. We managed to force our way out though! One highlight of the day was the appearance of an old man who claimed to have been given the recipe for an AIDS cure in a vision. He brought a bottle of his medicine and attested to having cured 5 patients. Bob took the sample in case he could have it analysed back home.

The journey home is again long, so our driver Boniface decides to race home despite the number of people, animals, potholes and slow moving vehicles on the road. Dave's GPS reveals a top speed of 75mph and most of the vehicle's occupants vow to travel with Victor (our other driver) in future.
